Why We Don't Shoot: The unwritten use of force policy
This is an excellent article that is spot on!JOHN WILLSTraining ContributorI’m not going to get myself into a jam. If they don’t want aggressive cops, I’m willing to spend my twenty just showing up when I’m supposed to and not making any waves while I’m there. That was from a cop who spoke with me confidentially during one of the breaks from a recent training session. As much as I tried to counsel him about the need to do the right thing, he was adamant about giving the bosses what they wanted. Unfortunately, I’ve heard this same rhetoric from a number of cops, and quite frankly, it disturbs me.I wrote about this situation September …Read more […..]

And, those poor people with their rights being ignored…… Only in California….DENNY WALSH and SAM STANTONThe Sacramento Bee, Calif. In a historic move Tuesday, a panel of three federal judges ordered California officials to cut the state’s prison population by 40,591 inmates in the next two years because of chronic overcrowding that the panel said has resulted in an unconstitutional level of medical and mental health care. The order will not result in the immediate release of any of the state’s …Read more […..]
Video: Overweight Nebraska Officer Struggles
It has always been my belief that if you are a police officer it is your duty–to yourself and your family–to stay in shape. Why increase the odds of getting hurt or even killed? There should be periodic testing to ensure that officers are in somewhat decent shape for the job. Just my opinion…. He couldn’t bend over to get into a robbed business!BELLEVUE, Neb. –Should a police officer’s physical condition determine whether he is fit for duty?A police officer in Nebraska recently got his job back after a lengthy court battle. Now, new surveillance video shows another Bellevue officer struggling on the job.On May 5, Bellevue …Read more […..]
Minivan rams SUV in mistaken gang retribution on West Side
A solution to this would be to gather all the gang members and put them into an enclosed area, say a stadium that was sealed off, and let them have at it. The world would be a better place without these lowlifes…. But, we have to remember that they have rights, cannot be racially profiled or singled out by police, had terrible home lives and therefore, are not responsi9ble for their actions, or they are insane and the devil made them do it…. What a world…Young woman dies, and other SUV passengers are injuredBy Annie Sweeney, William Lee and Matthew Walberg | Tribune reporters August 4, 2009 A few hours before sunup, …Read more […..]
Arizona Sheriff Balks at Feds' Enforcement Change
PHOENIX –The self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff in America” has never gotten so much resistance from the federal government. The Homeland Security Department wants Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz., to stop arresting illegal immigrants whose only crime was crossing the U.S.-Mexico border without documents. The thing is, Arpaio doesn’t much care.”I’m not going to bend to the federal government, I’m going to do my job,” he said. “I don’t report to the federal government, I report to the people.”Shifting winds in Washington have led the Homeland Security Department to rework a federal program that has allowed Arpaio’s …Read more […..]
Judge: Louisville Liable for Off-Duty Crashes
I would think that the city vehicle would be covered by the city. How ridiculous would it be if the officers had to pay for auto insurance on the city cars that they drive to and from work… LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Louisville tax dollars may be at greater risk, thanks to a judge’s ruling in a wrongful death lawsuit. The ruling as it stands means the city can be sued if a police officer is involved in an accident in a cruiser to or from work. Because the city is self-insured, any payments would come from tax dollars. In October 2006, Donnie Puente was in an emergency lane on the Watterson Expressway putting gasoline into a friend’s …Read more […..]
SC Woman Catches Horse's Molester
Like a fellow officer used to say, you just can’t make this stuff up!COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 29) – A South Carolina man was charged with having sex with a horse after the animal’s owner caught the act on videotape, then staked out the stable and caught him at shotgun point, authorities said Wednesday. But this wasn’t the first time Rodell Vereen has been charged with buggery.
