Chicago police rip their pension fund for investing in business tied to Robert Vanecko, nephew of Mayor Richard Daley

Investing the pension funds of city departments, in this case Chicago PD, into a realty company owned by Mayor Daley’s nephew sounds really fishy. How the heck does this guy last as mayor with all the shady deals–Meigs Field, Ohare Expansion, and this, among others…. Like the old adage says, “It is good to be king.”Officers also blasted fund officials for not complying with a subpoena from Chicago’s inspector general By Dan Mihalopoulos | Tribune reporter April 30, 2009Dozens of Chicago police officers jammed their pension fund’s board meeting Wednesday to question an investment deal for a real estate firm involving …Read more […..]

Chicago Police officers protest at City Hall

Chicago PD showed unity in marching on city hall. It is great to see officers united and standing together. This seems to be a rare occurence as many officers are afraid to stand up for their rights–my experience at Northlake PD is a prime example. April 2, 2009BY FRAN SPIELMAN AND ANNIE SWEENEY Staff Reporters The International Olympic Committee might not get the message, but Mayor Daley surely will. His ears must be burning.Chanting “Daley sucks,” thousands of Chicago Police officers marched around City Hall and rallied at the Daley Center Plaza Thursday to protest their two-year wait for a new contract and Daley’s …Read more […..]

Teens protest Chicago PD getting rifles

Are you kidding me? Unreal!CHICAGO — Nearly 100 teens marched outside Chicago police headquarters Thursday night to protest the department’s plans to equip officers with semi-automatic rifles, saying the weapons could make the streets more dangerous. Carrying signs like “Stop the War on Youth,” teens said they didn’t trust police with the high-powered weapons and worried gangs would be encouraged to bolster their own arsenals.”The only people who need these guns are in Iraq,” said Arthur McGraw, 19, an organizer with the nonprofit Southwest Youth Collaborative, which organized the rally. “It’ll shoot through brick, car …Read more […..]

Sound Familiar?

The Department spokeswoman obviously is trying to put a spin on things. A friend of mine who is a copper at Chicago PD has cnfirmed that morale is extremely low and they are not going to go out of their way to make arrests for fear that they will be overly scrutinized and eventually punished. Seems certain chiefs like to make a reputation for themselves. This happens everyday and I am sure some people actually buy into department brass’ excuses. As many officers used to state at Northlake PD, it is all “smoke and mirrors.” CHICAGO — Serious crime is up but arrests are down in Chicago, and some police officers say they …Read more […..]

Is This Crazy or What?

Some were rejected from suburban police departments.Others sold cocaine and smoked pot.A few were thieves. Others are related to crooks. One was even a gang member. They’re among dozens of people restored to the Chicago Police Department’s hiring list after they were found unfit to become cops. The Chicago Sun-Times explored a little-known appeals process for police applicants blackballed because of problems in their backgrounds.Of 221 who appealed, 79 people were returned to the hiring list by the city’s Human Resources Board between 2005 and 2007, records show.One-hundred twenty-eight were kept off the hiring list and another …Read more […..]
