Judge: Louisville Liable for Off-Duty Crashes
I would think that the city vehicle would be covered by the city. How ridiculous would it be if the officers had to pay for auto insurance on the city cars that they drive to and from work… LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Louisville tax dollars may be at greater risk, thanks to a judge’s ruling in a wrongful death lawsuit. The ruling as it stands means the city can be sued if a police officer is involved in an accident in a cruiser to or from work. Because the city is self-insured, any payments would come from tax dollars. In October 2006, Donnie Puente was in an emergency lane on the Watterson Expressway putting gasoline into a friend’s …Read more […..]
SC Woman Catches Horse's Molester
Like a fellow officer used to say, you just can’t make this stuff up!COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 29) – A South Carolina man was charged with having sex with a horse after the animal’s owner caught the act on videotape, then staked out the stable and caught him at shotgun point, authorities said Wednesday. But this wasn’t the first time Rodell Vereen has been charged with buggery. BOSTON (AFP) – Boston police said they had suspended an officer for a racist email likely to renew tensions over the recent arrest of black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.”Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis placed Officer Justin Barrett, 36, on administrative leave pending the outcome of a termination hearing,” a spokesman for the force told AFP in a statement.”Commissioner Davis was made aware of a correspondence with racist remarks and yesterday removed the officer of his gun and badge.”The email describes Gates, who was arrested and briefly detained earlier this month at Harvard, near Boston, as a “banana-eating …Read more […..]
Lawmakers to propose ban on driving while texting
A great start! About time that this is addressed…. How many times have you been right behind someone who is texting–or talking on the phone for that matter– and they are in the left lane driving sloooow. You are on their butt and then after what seems forever they see you in their mirror and get mad that you are on their a$$. Getting out of hand. Will be interesting how this is handled in court. I can see it now, attorneys trying to say that their clients were not texting and that the officer made it up, was racial profiling, or whatever else they can conjure up. And, will officers be able to confiscate phones to prove …Read more […..]
Mass. police heard calling Gates uncooperative
I don’t think anything is going to change some people’s minds from what I have been seeing on TV. Pretty pathetic in my opinion.CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A Cambridge police sergeant who responded to a 911 call about a possible break-in at the home of black Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. told dispatchers that Gates was being uncooperative and to “keep the cars coming.”Another voice can be heard in the background of the transmission, but it is unintelligible and unclear if it is Gates.Cambridge police released recordings of police radio transmissions and of the 911 call Monday following more than a week of controversy …Read more […..]
3 Kilos of Cocaine Found During Georgia Traffic Stop
EMERSON, Ga. –Police in the Bartow County town of Emerson believe a routine traffic stop helped them intercept a large shipment of cocaine headed for Cobb County. It was a comedy of errors on the suspect’s part that helped officers discover the shipment of cocaine hidden in the car.It started as a simple traffic stop for Emerson Officer Kyle Teems. The black Chevy was doing 91 MPH in a 70 MPH zone — but it quickly went downhill.”It looked suspicious, they were coming from Tennessee and they didn’t have any type of identification on them. So we asked for consent to search and then found the illegal contraband in the trunk,” …Read more […..]
Gates Says Time to 'Move On' From Arrest
Is it possible that Gates purposely went off on Crowley in order to create buzz so that his new TV documentary would get more attention? Just a thought…BOSTON (July 26) — Black Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. says he’s ready to move on from his arrest by a white police officer, hoping to use the encounter to improve fairness in the criminal justice system and saying “in the end, this is not about me at all.”After a phone call from President Barack Obama urging calm in the aftermath of his arrest last week, Gates said he would accept Obama’s invitation to the White House for a beer with him and Cambridge police Sgt. …Read more […..]
