MIAMI (CBS4) – New radio transmissions shed light on the exchange between a Florida Highway Patrol trooper and an off-duty City of Miami officer after the officer was pulled over last month for speeding on the turnpike. This officer is a complete joke! Unbelievable! Trooper Donna Watts arrested Miami Officer Fausto Lopez early on the morning of October 11th. Her dashboard camera recorded the Miami officer, in a marked police car, blowing past her and other traffic on the Florida Turnpike like it was standing still. “I don’t know what agency it is. Description: This is an Emmy award winning story shot by a photojournalist from WSYX/WTTE (ACB/FOX) in Columbus, OH heard a chase going down on his police scanner. The chase involved multiple juristictions (Columbus police and Gahanna police and Franklin Co. Sheriff’s) so he decided to find a spot ahead of the chase to pull over and get some video of the cruisers as they flew past. Police catch carjacker after wild ride down Kennedy
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE A man has been charged with allegedly carjacking a BMW on the Far Northwest Side on Wednesday morning, driving erratically at high speeds down the Kennedy Expressway, then crashing into a parked car just west of the River North area. The entire episode, from carjacking to capture, took less than 20 minutes. Report says suspect pursuits yield high fatalities
One-third of those killed in high speed chases are bystanders Bystanders account for one-third of those who are killed in high-speed police chases, a USA TODAY review has found. The deaths have several communities around the nation wrestling with whether to restrict pursuits only to suspects in violent crimes. About 360 people are killed each year in police chases, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
